Ryder Cup star Boo Weekley aims for top-20 ranking

DOHA, Qatar — American Ryder Cup star Boo Weekley is determined to break into the world’s top 20 this year.

Weekley, who shot to prominence with an emphatic 4-and-2 victory over Oliver Wilson in final day singles play at last year’s Ryder Cup, said Wednesday his goal in 2009 is to improve his current ranking of 45.

“At the end of the year, I want to be in the top 20,” the 35-year-old American said ahead of the US$2.5-million Qatar Masters. “If I can get there, I (will) have accomplished my goals this year.”

Boo named Professional Athlete of the Year by All Sports Association, Inc.

Boo Weekley, the Milton High graduate and PGA Tour star, was named Thursday as the winner of the All Sports Association Inc. professional athlete of the year.

He will be honored Feb. 20 at the 40th annual All Sports Association banquet in Fort Walton Beach at the Emerald Coast Conference Center.

Weekley is expected to be joined by Florida Gators’ quarterback Tim Tebow, who will receive the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Official Boo Weekley Memorabilia Signing

Boo Weekley had his first official memorabilia signing with Big Buck Sports II on December 3 at the Big Buck Sports II offices in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Boo spent some time autographing items for fans which included his Ryder Cup golf shirts that were worn during this year’s Ryder Cup victory! Those shirts will be available in the coming weeks for an online auction benefitting Boo’s charities. All other items are available online in the Boo Shop Each item comes with a certificate of authenticity and specially designed holograms coordinating with the item and certificate.

Not only did Boo Weekley win over legions of fans with his memorable performance at the Ryder Cup, he also showed the golf world he knows a thing or two about the game. (Even if earlier this year he said he didn’t know you could concede putts during match play.)
